GLOBAL MUSIC CABO VERDE IS MUSIC PALACIO DE MUSICA

Global Music is a musical production label which I founded in 1993 when publishing my first solo album "Black Inside".

The name came to me while performing for a beautiful concert at the Gautama Buddha Auditorium in Poona, India in 1992. We were 10 musicians from all over the world and every musician was featured in one song and had the support of the other nine: such a richness of melodies, grooves, ambience....we called it the "Global Music Concert".

Later on I was surprised that there was no music label Global Music already existing, so I felt this name was for me!

I published two more CD's with friends: Symbols....with Frauke Horn Music from the Inner Temple....with Vedanta Aspioti

Then the label fell into "hibernating", it was too difficult to maintain a label while being only a half time musician and not producing regularly.

Now, with all my new opportunities in Sao Vicente, Cabo Verde, a good moment has come to continue with the initial idea to produce excellent "Global Music".

We will start to produce several albums this year in our new professional recording studio in Mindelo, and try to give it that extra sound this wounderful music deserves.

We already have an online distribution channel via PrabhuMusic and we are looking for additional opportunities for whole sale and retail in shops around the globe.

With some local musicians I have started a musical workshop in which we follow the roots of Cape Verdean music to its roots and inter-relatidness with Africa and Brazil.

We call this the "AfriCaBrasil" project.

The islands of Cabo Verde are a little known independent republic midway between Africa and South America in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

Ten islands - with just 400,000 people - living in idyllic isolation from the hustle and bustle of other more developed parts of the planet. The economy of the islands is challenging - there are few natural resources and limited agricultural possibilities - imports are high and theopportunities for internal economic development limited.

However, the islands have stunning natural beauty, an unspoilt habitat, empty beaches, endless fresh fish, a forgotten simplicity and pace life and one major international asset - music.

"Cabo Verde is a musical ... Every Caboverdian is a musician in his heart, and some are really great musicians!

You find sun, sea and sand on many islands, but unique in Cabo Verde is the culture especially the music and the dance.

How Caboverdians live this music is as a swinging and relaxed lifestyle.

Cape Verdean Music

The genuine music of Cabo Verde is characterised by Morna, Funana, Coladeira and it has been enriched by the flavour of the Brazilian samba, Portuguese Fado, African rhythms and chants, Caribbean Zouk, Cuban salsa and jazz in complex fusion. All of this linked by a deep feeling for the music and it's integration into daily life.

Cesaria Evora has become a world ambassador for the music of Cabo Verde. There are many other gifted and heart-breaking ambassadors waiting to be discovered...



Introducing Cabo Verde is Music

"The vision of our marketing project is to provide support for and promote the Cape Verdean musical experience worldwide - to create a Global Music Village in Cabo Verde, to provide a meeting place for musicians, and lovers of their music, from all over the planet."

The Cabo Verde is Music project is all about promoting the music of Cabo Verde, and therefore Cabo Verde itself.

All inward investment in the islands - in power generation, industry, consumables and especially tourism - needs to see a payback. The islands are a natural tourist destination, and for tourism to be developed many aspects of infrastructure need further investment -travel, accommodation, service - to be improved and extended.

The payback for such investment will come through a developing tourism industry managed in an ecologically sound way, reflecting the thinking and attitudes of the new millennium

The marketing programme Cabo Verde is Music will put Cabo Verde on the map.

"Cabo Verde offers investors a unique a financially sound and interesting opportunity, combined with an ecologically and culturally gratifying tourist development strategy. Investment will sustain and improve the special life quality of the Cabo Verdian people, making it available to tourists to cherish this special flavour."

Cabo Verde is Music offers sponsorship opportunities to all those already investing and planning to invest in the Republic of Cabo Verde.

Through coordination and promotion of the music of the islands, a greater worldwide interest will be developed, which will result in more people deciding to visit and hear the music and experience the culture first-hand. The success of such an approach has been proved through the promoting of Jamaica through its Reggae music and Cuba through its Salsa music (Buena Vista Social Club).

Supporting the islands unique cultural asset - the music - will ensure a positive investment outcome.

1. Producing and recording CDs with top Cabo Verde musicians in our new professional "Palacio de Musica" Recording Studio in Mindelo

Each CD will be available for sponsor badging and distribution by the sponsor as well as through normal marketing channels.

2. Organising or supporting European and US tours of Cabo Verde is Music

  • In conjunction with the leading tour promoters and record labels guaranteeing high attendances
