In April we recorded our new CD SABURA in the recording studio of our friend Harida Quinteiros in Portugal, a great musician himself on percussion and drums.
It has been a wonderful time. The studio is situated in the mountains of the Alentejo, about 3 hours south of Lisbon, it is powered by solar and wind energy and has its own fresh water source. And so we lived and worked surrounded by this inspiring nature and in the beautifully decorated house as a group of friends. Pipiet cooked delicious food and Nartan, the partner of Harida took care of us all in a wonderful way.
We are very proud of our new CD, as we have recorded our own and new compositions and managed to create a harmonious connection of Cape Verdean rhythms and jazz harmonies and improvisation. Probably the beginning of a new music style called Cabo Verde Jazz.
This is certainly a great CD for fans of Afro Jazz, but also for all friends of good and happy music.
SABURA means the peak of joy and is a love declaration to the life and culture of our home island Sao Vicente.
Everybody listening to it says it is great, it is fresh, so much variety and sweetness.
You can listen to the first 3 songs of the CD on our band website My Space
The songs are called Mira Mar, Badia and Feliz e Contente.

Much love from Swagato and OLINOS
The musicians of OLINOS
SWAGATO on tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone and flute and influenced by jazz and world music is dancing in his melodies and solos to the musical groove of his Cape Verdean fellow musicians, and showing his deep appreciation of his new home country. In his funky and jazzy contributions he has been innovator, expanding the the traditional style of the wind instruments.
HUMBERTO RAMOS on piano/keyboard has a very tasty and laid back style, groovy in his accompaniment, and virtuoso in his solos, both rooted in Cape Verdean music and in jazz. With his new compositions and arrangements he is the musical director of the band.
IVAN GOMES is a very talented newcomer, with his own experimental style, profound on his acoustic guitar and explosive in his solos on electric guitar. With his compositions he is contributing to the new repertoire.
EDER MOTA is with the youngest member of the band, one of these new auto/didactic talents who will bring a new flavour to Cape Verdean music and its fusion with world and jazz.
FREDE SOUSA DE CARVALHO is a real wizard on drums and percussion in the local rhythms of morna and coladeira, then Brazilian Batucada and African music which he interweaves with jazz and latin grooves.
